HHEX

This gene encodes a member of the homeobox family of transcription factors, many of which are involved in developmental processes. Expression in specific hematopoietic lineages suggests that this protein may play a role in hematopoietic differentiation.
Protein class

Human disease related genes, Transcription factors

Predicted location

Intracellular

Single cell type specificity

Cell type enhanced (Cholangiocytes, Ductal cells, Hepatic stellate cells, Endothelial cells, B-cells, Hofbauer cells, Kupffer cells, Hepatocytes, dendritic cells)

Immune cell specificity

Group enriched (naive B-cell, eosinophil, memory B-cell, non-classical monocyte, intermediate monocyte, classical monocyte, plasmacytoid DC, neutrophil, myeloid DC, basophil)

Cell line specificity

Cell line enhanced (EFO-21, HEL, HMC-1, HUVEC TERT2, K-562, NB-4, U-937)

Interaction

Interacts with CD81; the interaction prevents nuclear translocation of HHEX (By similarity). Interacts (via N-terminus) with SOX13; abolishes the SOX13-mediated inhibition of WNT-mediated transcriptional activity via competitive inhibition of the SOX13-TCF7 complex (PubMed:20028982).

Molecular function

Developmental protein, DNA-binding, Repressor
