LGALS1

The galectins are a family of beta-galactoside-binding proteins implicated in modulating cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions. This gene product may act as an autocrine negative growth factor that regulates cell proliferation.
Protein class

Plasma proteins

Predicted location

Intracellular, Secreted (different isoforms)

Single cell type specificity

Cell type enhanced (monocytes, Langerhans cells, Smooth muscle cells, Hofbauer cells)

Immune cell specificity

Low immune cell specificity

Cell line specificity

Low cell line specificity

Interaction

Homodimer. Binds LGALS3BP. Interacts with CD2, CD3, CD4, CD6, CD7, CD43, ALCAM and CD45. Interacts with laminin (via poly-N-acetyllactosamine). Interacts with SUSD2. Interacts with cargo receptor TMED10; the interaction mediates the translocation from the cytoplasm into the ERGIC (endoplasmic reticulum-Golgi intermediate compartment) and thereby secretion (PubMed:32272059).
