NR2E1

The protein encoded by this gene is an orphan receptor involved in retinal development. The encoded protein also regulates adult neural stem cell proliferation and may be involved in control of aggressive behavior. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
Protein class

Nuclear receptors, Transcription factors

Predicted location

Intracellular

Single cell type specificity

Cell type enhanced (Muller glia cells, Astrocytes, Inhibitory neurons, Oligodendrocyte precursor cells)

Immune cell specificity

Not detected in immune cells

Cell line specificity

Cell line enhanced (BEWO, GAMG, HEK93, U-251 MG)

Interaction

Monomer. Interacts with ATN1; the interaction represses the transcription.

Molecular function

Activator, Developmental protein, DNA-binding, Receptor, Repressor
