Hindlimb withdrawal thresholds in response to compression of the knee joint were measuredin normal animals and in animals with a knee joint arthritis (5–6 h postinduction. Arthritic animals had lower withdrawal thresholds than normal animals, reflectingmechanical hypersensitivity.
