• Interleukin 12 (IL-12) is an interleukin that is naturally produced by dendritic cells, macrophages, neutrophils, helper T cells, and human B lymphoblastoid cells (NC-37) in response to antigenic stimulation. IL-12 belongs to the interleukin 12 family. The IL-12 family is unique in that it contains only heterodimeric cytokines, including IL-12, IL-23, IL-27, and IL-35. Although they share many common structural features and molecular partners, the functional effects they mediate are surprisingly diverse.

• Introduction

It is implicated in guidance of migrating neurons as well as axons during development, synaptic plasticity, and neuronal regeneration.
