- TAG-72 (Tumor-Associated Glycoprotein 72) is a mucin-like glycoprotein complex highly expressed on the surface of various human adenocarcinomas, including colorectal, ovarian, gastric, and breast cancers. While its precise physiological function is not fully understood, TAG-72 is believed to play roles in cell adhesion, migration, and potentially in protecting tumor cells from the host immune response.
Due to its restricted expression in most normal adult tissues and high prevalence in many cancers, TAG-72 serves as a valuable tumor marker for diagnostic and prognostic purposes.
