Background
Amyloid beta (Aβ) is a peptide that is produced by the proteolytic cleavage of amyloid precursor protein (APP). Aβ42 is a 42-amino acid variant of Aβ that is prone to aggregation and is the major component of amyloid plaques found in the brains of Alzheimer's disease patients. Aβ42 is a potential target for the development of new drugs to treat Alzheimer's disease.
