AQP1

This gene encodes a small integral membrane protein with six bilayer spanning domains that functions as a water channel protein. This protein permits passive transport of water along an osmotic gradient. This gene is a possible candidate for disorders involving imbalance in ocular fluid movement.
Protein class

Blood group antigen proteins, Metabolic proteins, Transporters

Predicted location

Membrane

Single cell type specificity

Cell type enhanced (Adipocytes, Endothelial cells, Cholangiocytes, Hepatic stellate cells, Proximal tubular cells, Alveolar cells type 2)

Immune cell specificity

Not detected in immune cells

Cell line specificity

Cell line enhanced (EFO-21, HeLa, SH-SY5Y, U-2 OS, WM-115)

Interaction

Homotetramer. Interacts with EPHB2; involved in endolymph production in the inner ear (By similarity). Identified in a complex with STOM.
