IL3 is a cytokine produced by activated T-cells that plays an important role in hematopoiesis (the formation of blood cells) and immune responses. It stimulates the growth and differentiation of hematopoietic stem cells and various progenitor cells, including those that give rise to red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. IL3 acts by binding to its receptor, which is expressed on the surface of many immune and hematopoietic cells. It is essential for the activation of multiple immune pathways and the maintenance of immune cell populations. Dysregulation of IL3 can contribute to diseases like leukemia.
