Background
The Kappa Myeloma Antigen (KMA) is a tumor-associated antigen specifically expressed on the surface of kappa myeloma cells, which are malignant plasma cells. This antigen is related to kappa light chains, a component of immunoglobulins. Its expression is particularly relevant in kappa-type multiple myeloma, where there's an overproduction of these aberrant plasma cells. The KMA serves as a target for diagnostic and therapeutic applications, as monoclonal antibodies can be developed to recognize and bind to this antigen, potentially leading to targeted therapies for kappa myeloma.
