Background
SRC is the prototypical member of the Src family kinases (SFKs), a highly conserved family of non-receptor protein tyrosine kinases that play pivotal roles in a vast array of cellular processes. Unlike receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs) that have their own extracellular ligand-binding domains, Src acts as a crucial intracellular signal transducer, linking activated transmembrane receptors (such as growth factor receptors, integrins, G protein-coupled receptors, and immune receptors) to diverse downstream signaling pathways. Its activity is tightly regulated, primarily through precise tyrosine phosphorylation and dephosphorylation events.
