TREM1 is a transmembrane receptor expressed on neutrophils, monocytes, and macrophages. It is activated by ligands released during inflammation and infection, such as bacterial peptides and products of tissue damage. TREM1 signaling amplifies the inflammatory response. When activated, it recruits adaptor proteins like DAP12, which then initiate signaling cascades that lead to the production of pro - inflammatory cytokines and chemokines. TREM1 plays a role in the early stages of the immune response to infection, and its over - activation can contribute to the development of severe inflammation, as seen in sepsis.
