LDHB

LDHB is the B subunit of lactate dehydrogenase enzyme, which catalyzes the interconversion of pyruvate and lactate with concomitant interconversion of NADH and NAD+ in a post-glycolysis process. Recent studies have shown that a C-terminally extended isoform is produced by use of an alternative in-frame translation termination codon via a stop codon readthrough mechanism, and that this isoform is localized in the peroxisomes. Mutations in this gene are associated with lactate dehydrogenase B deficiency.
Protein class

Disease related genes, Enzymes, FDA approved drug targets, Metabolic proteins, Plasma proteins

Predicted location

Intracellular

Single cell type specificity

Cell type enhanced (Proximal tubular cells, Distal tubular cells, Cardiomyocytes, Cytotrophoblasts, Syncytiotrophoblasts)

Immune cell specificity

Low immune cell specificity

Cell line specificity

Cell line enhanced (RPTEC TERT1)

Interaction

Homotetramer (PubMed:11276087). Interacts with PTEN upstream reading frame protein MP31; the interaction leads to inhibition of mitochondrial lactate dehydrogenase activity, preventing conversion of lactate to pyruvate in mitochondria (PubMed:33406399).

Molecular function

Oxidoreductase
