purN, or Phosphoribosylglycinamide formyltransferase, is an enzyme involved in the de novo purine biosynthetic pathway. It catalyzes the transfer of a formyl group from 10-formyltetrahydrofolate to glycinamide ribonucleotide (GAR), forming formylglycinamide ribonucleotide (FGAR). PurN is essential for the construction of the purine ring.
