Background
GD3 ganglioside is a sialic acid-containing glycosphingolipid that is expressed on the surface of various cell types, including neurons, melanoma cells, and certain cancer cells. It plays a role in cell signaling, proliferation, and differentiation. GD3 is particularly abundant in the brain, where it is involved in neuronal development and function. In cancer, GD3 has been implicated in tumor growth, metastasis, and angiogenesis. GD3 has also been explored as a target for cancer immunotherapy, with the development of monoclonal antibodies that target GD3 on tumor cells.
