Reovirus Type 3

Type 3 (Re03) is a representative strain of the orthomyxoviridae family. The virus particle has no membrane and is about 70nm in diameter. Viral genomes are segmented double-stranded RNA(dsRNA), and the whole genome is divided into L(Ll, L2, L3), M(M1, M2, M3), S(S1, S2, S3, S4), with a total of 10 segmental genomes, and 11 proteins are encoded, among which 8 structural proteins and 3 non-structural proteins. The virus can infect all mammals, including pigs, cattle, mice, ground squirrels, guinea pigs, cats and dogs. It can also proliferate and cause cellular changes in human, monkey, guinea pig, ground mouse, cat, dog, pig and cow as well as in Hela, KB, FL and L cells. Re03 can also infect people and can cause diarrhea, respiratory tract infections and meningitis in children. Due to the natural infection of Re03 in the animals and cells mentioned above, it will not only cause interference to animal experiments, but also lead to the potential pollution of Re03 in the human biological products produced by the said animal source materials or cells, which poses a potential threat to the safety of the use of human animal-derived materials and animal-derived biological products.
