Streptolysin O (SLO) is an extracellular protein produced by most Streptococcus pyogenes strains. It belongs to a large class of highly conserved cholesterol-dependent cytolysins present in species of four genera, including Streptococcus, Clostridium, Listeria, and Bacillus.
