Bluetongue virus (BTV) is an arthropod-borne virus transmitted to ruminants by blood-sucking Diptera of the genus Culicoides. BTV is the prototype species of the genus Orbivirus which belongs to the family Reoviridae with twenty-six serotypes described so far. They have ten double-stranded RNA segments encapsidated by two layers of proteins. The inner core consists of two major proteins, VP3 and VP7, and three minor proteins, VP1, VP4 and VP6.
