SCARB1

The protein encoded by this gene is a plasma membrane receptor for high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL). The encoded protein mediates cholesterol transfer to and from HDL. In addition, this protein is a receptor for hepatitis C virus glycoprotein E2. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.[provided by RefSeq, Mar 2011]
Protein class

Metabolic proteins, Transporters

Predicted location

Intracellular, Membrane (different isoforms)

Single cell type specificity

Cell type enhanced (Hepatocytes, Adipocytes, Granulosa cells)

Immune cell specificity

Group enriched (plasmacytoid DC, myeloid DC, classical monocyte)

Cell line specificity

Cell line enhanced (RPMI-8226)

Interaction

The C-terminal region binds to PDZK1. (Microbial infection) Interacts with hepatitis C virus E1:E2 glycoproteins.
