CLDN10

CLDN10 encodes a member of the claudin family. Claudins are integral membrane proteins and components of tight junction strands. Tight junction strands serve as a physical barrier to prevent solutes and water from passing freely through the paracellular space between epithelial or endothelial cell sheets, and also play critical roles in maintaining cell polarity and signal transductions. The expression level of this gene is associated with recurrence of primary hepatocellular carcinoma. Six alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been reported, but the transcript sequences of some variants are not determined.
Protein class

Disease related genes, Human disease related genes

Predicted location

Intracellular, Membrane (different isoforms)

Single cell type specificity

Cell type enhanced (Ductal cells, Cholangiocytes, Proximal tubular cells, Club cells, Glandular and luminal cells, Basal respiratory cells)

Immune cell specificity

Group enriched (neutrophil, eosinophil)

Cell line specificity

Cell line enhanced (HUVEC TERT2, NTERA-2, RPTEC TERT1, SuSa)

Interaction

Can form homodimers both in trans (interaction between CLDN10 molecules in opposing membranes) and in cis (interaction between CLDN10 molecules within one membrane).
