PVX_111175, also known as Ookinete surface protein Pvs25, Pvs25 and Pvs28 are close to the structure of natural plasmodium parasite protein. The IFA results suggest that antibodies against PVS 5 and PVS 8 May play different roles in blocking transmission of the parasite.The researchers concluded that Pvs25 is an ideal candidate antigen for transmission-blocking vaccine. Its advantages include higher expression level in the in vitro expression system, less post-translational modification, and far less variation of Pvs25 in the field isolates than pmil-pan8. If these results, which completely block the spread of the parasite, are to be taken seriously in primate models or human trials, then these candidate antigens for malaria vaccine candidates should be a powerful weapon in malaria control.
