DERF1 is a 25 kDa protease composed of a 223-amino acid sequence. Through secretion by Pichia pastoris, DERF1 is easier to produce in a recombinant form than DERF1 due to the removal of an N-glycosylation site. In solution or crystal, DERF1 is a monomer. DERF1 has been shown to express polymorphism, with at least two haplotypes observed in different regions. DERF1 is a thiol protease that hydrolyzes proteins, with a preference for Phe or basic residues. DERF1 is a C1 peptidase family member. DERF1 has extensive endopeptidase specificity. DERF1 causes an allergic reaction in humans. Common symptoms of mite allergy are bronchial asthma, allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis.
