Background
AGS-16 refers to an antigen that has been identified as a target for cancer therapies. In particular, it is related to targets found in renal cell carcinoma, liver carcinoma, and prostate cancer. The AGS-16 target is connected to the Ectonucleotide pyrophosphatase/phosphodiesterase family member 3 (ENPP3). This protein is found on the surface of cells, and is often over expressed on cancer cells. This trait, of over expression on cancer cells, allows it to be a target for monoclonal antibody treatments. There have been anticancer drugs created that target AGS-16. One example of this type of medicinal development is the "anti-AGS-16 monoclonal antibody AGS-16M18". Therefore AGS-16 represents a valuable target in the development of targeted cancer therapies.
