- Haemophilus influenzae ompA is the Outer Membrane Protein A of Haemophilus influenzae, a Gram-negative bacterium that can cause respiratory infections and meningitis. OmpA is a key outer membrane protein, maintaining membrane structure and mediating bacterial adhesion to host respiratory epithelial cells, promoting colonization. It also helps the bacterium resist host immune clearance, such as inhibiting phagocytosis by immune cells. In research, ompA is a marker for Haemophilus influenzae detection and a candidate antigen for vaccines, as targeting it may prevent bacterial infection and reduce disease incidence.
