Background
ATF2 (Activating Transcription Factor 2) is a ubiquitous basic leucine zipper (bZIP) transcription factor and a prominent member of the ATF/CREB (cAMP response element-binding protein) family. It plays a pivotal role in mediating cellular responses to a wide array of stimuli, including environmental stresses (e.g., UV irradiation, genotoxic agents, osmotic stress), inflammatory cytokines, and growth factors. ATF2 regulates the transcription of numerous genes involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, DNA damage response, viral infection, and cell death. The precise control of ATF2's transcriptional activity and its subcellular localization is largely governed by its phosphorylation status.
