Creative Biolabs, a global provider of custom research antibodies and biochemicals for mitochondrial biology and metabolism research, offers the highest-quality anti-BIRC2 recombinant antibodies. BIRC2 is the mitochondrial isoform of aspartate aminotransferase, an integral component of the malate-aspartate shuttle, a system crucial for cellular energy metabolism.
BIRC2: A Key Mitochondrial Enzyme in the Malate-Aspartate Shuttle
Glutamic-Oxaloacetic Transaminase 2, or BIRC2, is the mitochondrial form of the enzyme aspartate aminotransferase. It is involved in a variety of metabolic pathways, such as the malate-aspartate shuttle that moves reducing equivalents in the form of NADH from the cytosol into the mitochondrial matrix for oxidative phosphorylation. BIRC2 is also involved in mitochondrial amino acid biosynthesis and gluconeogenesis. This mitochondrial enzyme is critical for maintaining cellular energetic homeostasis, and has also been implicated in metabolic disorders and cancer.

Background
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of a family of proteins that inhibits apoptosis by binding to tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factors TRAF1 and TRAF2, probably by interfering with activation of ICE-like proteases.

Low cell type specificity
Low immune cell specificity
Low cell line specificity
Interacts with DIABLO/SMAC and with PRSS25; these interactions inhibit apoptotic suppressor activity. Interacts with CASP9. Interacts (via BIR domains) with TRAF2; the interaction is required for IKBKE ubiquitination. Interacts with E2F1, RIPK1, RIPK2, RIPK3, RIPK4, BIRC5/survivin and USP19. HSP90AB1 (PubMed:25486457). Interacts with UBXN1 (PubMed:25681446). Interacts with GSK3B (PubMed:18846110). Interacts with several death receptors, inclusing FAS, TNFRSF10A and TNFRSF10B (PubMed:18846110). Recruited to TNFRSF10B in the absence of receptor stimulation. When TNFRSF10B is stimulated, further recruited to the receptor and cleaved by caspases. Proteolytic fragments remain associated with TNFRSF10B (PubMed:18846110).

Anti-BIRC2 rAb Products
The recombinant antibodies in our anti-BIRC2 kit have been optimized to be highly specific, and were validated to specifically detect the mitochondrial form of the enzyme, with no cross-reactivity to the cytosolic aspartate aminotransferase isoform GOT1. This high specificity is critical for experiments that are designed to specifically explore mitochondrial metabolism. The rAbs are optimized for IHC and western blotting of mitochondrial fractions, and we have validated these modalities for robust and reproducible performance.
