Background
Hsp90 is a highly conserved molecular chaperone protein that plays a vital role in protein folding, stability, and function. In Candida albicans, an opportunistic fungal pathogen, Hsp90 is essential for maintaining cellular homeostasis and adapting to environmental stresses. It is also implicated in the morphogenesis and virulence of C. albicans. Hsp90 facilitates the folding and activation of various signaling proteins that are crucial for fungal growth, drug resistance, and immune evasion. Inhibition of Hsp90 has emerged as a promising strategy for antifungal therapy, as it can disrupt multiple signaling pathways and compromise fungal viability. Research continues to explore the role of Hsp90 in C. albicans pathogenesis and to develop Hsp90 inhibitors with improved efficacy and specificity.
