Partnering with Creative Biolabs in your neuroscience and metabolism studies? You'll be pleased to know that we supply exceptional anti-CSAD recombinant antibodies. Cysteine Sulfinic Acid Decarboxylase (CSAD) is an enzyme that catalyzes the last step in the biosynthesis of taurine. Our quality antibodies are your ally for delving into its pivotal role in neuronal physiology, osmoregulation, and bile acid conjugation.
CSAD: The Key Enzyme in Taurine Production
Cysteine Sulfinic Acid Decarboxylase (CSAD) is a pyridoxal 5'-phosphate-dependent cytosolic enzyme that is highly expressed in liver. It catalyzes the production of hypotaurine by decarboxylating L-cysteine sulfinic acid. Hypotaurine is rapidly oxidized to taurine, the most abundant free amino acid found in many tissues. Taurine is involved in numerous cellular processes including osmoregulation, calcium handling, and antioxidant activity. Taurine also conjugates bile acids in the liver. Due to the high concentration of taurine in the retina and CNS, dysregulation of CSAD can lead to neurological and retinal dysfunction.

Background
This gene encodes a member of the group 2 decarboxylase family. A similar protein in rodents plays a role in multiple biological processes as the rate-limiting enzyme in taurine biosynthesis, catalyzing the decarboxylation of cysteinesulfinate to hypotaurine. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding multiple isoforms have been observed for this gene.
