CSRP1: A Multi-Domain Scaffold in Muscle and the Cytoskeleton
Cysteine and Glycine-Rich Protein 1 (CSRP1), also known as CRP1, is a member of the CSRP family of LIM domain-containing proteins. CSRP1 is an adaptor and scaffolding protein that is mostly localized to the cytoskeleton of the cell. It is highly expressed in skeletal muscle and cardiac muscle, where it participates in myofibril assembly and organization. Functionally, CSRP1 has been characterized as a "mechano-sensor", bridging the mechanical stability of the cell to the gene expression machinery. It is known to translocate to the nucleus and modulate the activity of transcription factors involved in myogenic differentiation and hypertrophy.
