Background
These cells express an invariant TCRα chain (Vα14-Jα18) that recognizes glycolipid antigens presented by CD1d. They can rapidly produce massive amounts of both Th1 (IFNgamma) and Th2 (IL-4) cytokines, acting as early immune orchestrators.
