Background

The cell cycle is a fundamental and tightly regulated process in eukaryotic cells that dictates their replication, leading to the formation of two genetically identical daughter cells from a single parent cell. This highly ordered series of events is essential for growth, development, and tissue repair in multicellular organisms. The cell cycle is divided into distinct phases: Interphase (comprising G1, S, and G2 phases) and M phase (mitosis and cytokinesis). Progression through these phases is governed by a complex network of regulatory proteins, primarily cyclins and cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs), whose levels and activities fluctuate precisely throughout the cycle.
