Background
Chondrogenesis is the complex biological process of cartilage formation, a critical event in embryonic development, skeletal growth, and tissue repair. It begins with the condensation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) or mesenchymal progenitor cells, which then differentiate into chondrocytes. These specialized cells are responsible for synthesizing and maintaining the extracellular matrix (ECM) of cartilage, predominantly composed of collagens (especially Type II collagen) and proteoglycans like aggrecan. Understanding the molecular markers associated with different stages of chondrogenesis is vital for regenerative medicine, musculoskeletal research, and studying cartilage-related pathologies.
