Background
Stx1B refers to the B subunit of Shiga toxin 1, produced by Escherichia coli. Shiga toxins are potent cytotoxins that contribute to the pathogenesis of E. coli infections, particularly hemorrhagic colitis and hemolytic uremic syndrome. The B subunit of Stx1 mediates binding to globotriaosylceramide (Gb3) receptors on target cells.
