EOMES encodes a transcription factor involved in the differentiation of specific cell types, particularly in the development of T cells and other immune cells. EOMES is part of the T-box family of transcription factors and is critical for the development of the mesoderm and endoderm during early embryogenesis. In the immune system, EOMES influences the differentiation of cytotoxic T lymphocytes and natural killer (NK) cells. Its role in immune function has been linked to both adaptive and innate immunity. Additionally, EOMES expression is critical in regulating the immune response in infections and cancer.
