Background

pdc, or Pyruvate decarboxylase, is an enzyme that catalyzes the decarboxylation of pyruvate to acetaldehyde and carbon dioxide. This enzyme is crucial in alcoholic fermentation, found in yeasts and some bacteria, regenerating NAD⁺ for glycolysis. Pdc plays a vital role in the production of ethanol and in regulating metabolic flux towards fermentative pathways.
