Pregnancy zone protein (PZP) is a protein encoded by the PZP gene on chromosome 12 in humans. PZP is part of the alpha-2 globulin family of proteins. It is usually associated with pregnancy, during which plasma proteins may be the most. It is believed that PZP plays a role in immune regulation during pregnancy, but many aspects of its mechanism, function, and structure have yet to be determined. Recent research has focused on determining how dysregulated PZP levels serve as markers for various diseases.
