Background
These cells express multiple inhibitory receptors (PD-1hi, Tim-3⁺, Lag-3⁺) and lack the transcription factor TCF-1. They have limited proliferative capacity and reduced cytokine production, eventually becoming apoptotic or non-functional in the tumor/chronic infection microenvironment.
