Background
PvDBP has been divided into six distinct regions, with the DARC binding site mapped to a ~350 amino acid residue Duffy-binding-like (DBL) domain known as Region II, PvDBPII6. This domain is split into three regions, known as subdomains 1-3 5. PvDBPII binds to the sixty-residue extracellular N-terminal ectodomain of DARC, in an interaction which requires DARC to be post-translationally modified by sulphation of two tyrosine residues, Tyr30 and Tyr41.
