Background

lpxA, or Acyl-[acyl-carrier-protein]-UDP-N-acetylglucosamine O-acyltransferase, is the first committed enzyme in lipid A biosynthesis in Gram-negative bacteria. It catalyzes the transfer of an R-3-hydroxymyristoyl group from acyl-ACP to UDP-N-acetylglucosamine. LpxA is crucial for the synthesis of lipid A, the endotoxic component of LPS, making it an attractive antibacterial target.
