Urease also aids bacterial adhesion to gastric epithelial cells and triggers host immune responses, contributing to gastric inflammation. It is a key virulence factor, widely used as a marker for Helicobacter pylori infection diagnosis (e.g., urea breath test) and a candidate antigen for vaccines.
