- Mycobacterium tuberculosis MPT64 is identical to the above-described MPT64, a MTBC-specific secreted protein of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Rapid tests targeting MPT64 enable quick detection of MTBC infections, supporting timely treatment initiation. Its immunogenicity also makes it a potential vaccine antigen, as it can stimulate host immune responses that target actively replicating bacteria. Given its specificity to MTBC, MPT64-based tools help avoid cross-reactivity with non-tuberculous Mycobacteria, improving diagnostic accuracy and vaccine specificity.
