Provided is a mouse anti-idiotypic monoclonal antibody (clone 16D7) that specially binds to anti-CD4 monoclonal antibody HP2/6. 16D7 has the potential for broad application in the HIV infection or type I diabetes mellitus.

The highest dilution of biotinylated mAb HP2/6 (empty bar) giving between 90% and 100% of the maximum binding to mAb2 was added to microtiter plates coated with the whole mAb2.

Separated proteins were transferred to a nitrocellulose filter and after blocking free protein binding site with PBS containing 0.5% Tween20, proteins were detected by incubating the filter sequentially with biotinylated HP2/6, avidin-peroxidase, and substrate solution.
