The anti-IL17C pH-dependent antibody (VS-0825-YC176) targets human Interleukin 17C (IL-17C) in a pH-dependent manner, with its affinity remaining high at neutral pH but weakening at a lower pH, such as within the acidic environment of endosomes. The anti-IL17C acid-switched antibody was engineered by incorporating histidine residues into its variable regions. The introduction of histidine substitutions within its Complementarity-Determining Regions (CDRs) enables pH-responsive antigen binding, which leads to enhanced IL17C clearance. The antibody operates in a cyclical manner, binding IL-17C in the extracellular fluid and releasing it in acidified endosomes. Human Interleukin 17C, or IL-17C, is a cytokine that is involved in mucosal immunity and is a key player in inflammatory diseases of the gut.
