The application of anti-NME1 antibodies coupled with liposomes in breast cancer treatment is still under research. NME1 (NME/NM23 nucleoside diphosphate kinase 1) has been found to be associated with tumor progression in breast cancer cells, thus potential therapeutic strategies targeting its rapid pathological development are being developed. Liposomes, as a drug delivery system, can enhance the targeting and bioavailability of drugs, which may help improve treatment outcomes for breast cancer patients.
Liposomes conjugated with anti-NME1 antibodies have been developed for the treatment of melanoma, as NME1 is an important gene associated with tumor metastasis. The use of liposomes aims to increase drug concentration and efficacy at the tumor site. By targeting NME1, researchers hope to enhance the exposure of tumor cells to the drug and its apoptotic capability. Preliminary results suggest that this approach effectively inhibits tumor growth.

  • This gene (NME1) was identified because of its reduced mRNA transcript levels in highly metastatic cells. Nucleoside diphosphate kinase (NDK) exists as a hexamer composed of 'A' (encoded by this gene) and 'B' (encoded by NME2) isoforms. Mutations in this gene have been identified in aggressive neuroblastomas. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. Co-transcription of this gene and the neighboring downstream gene (NME2) generates naturally-occurring transcripts (NME1-NME2), which encodes a fusion protein comprised of sequence sharing identity with each individual gene product.
