For Research Use Only. Not For Clinical Use.
Purpose-built for your cell division research, our anti-CENPE recombinant antibodies are highly specific tools for studying Centromere Protein E (CENPE), a kinesin motor protein critical for chromosome alignment during mitosis. Ideal for probing the mechanics of cell division, our high-quality anti-CENPE antibodies can also be used to explore CENPE as a promising target for anti-cancer drugs.
CENPE: A Mitotic Kinesin for Chromosome Congression
Centromere Protein E (CENPE) is a plus-end-directed kinesin motor protein that localizes specifically to the kinetochores of chromosomes during mitosis. The kinetochore is the protein structure on a chromosome that attaches to the microtubules of the mitotic spindle during cell division. CENPE facilitates the movement of the attached chromosome toward the metaphase plate, or center, of the dividing cell. This action, called chromosome congression, is an essential process that ensures all chromosomes are properly aligned on the metaphase plate. Chromosome congression is a prerequisite for chromosomes to be evenly segregated into the two daughter cells.

Background
Centrosome-associated protein E (CENPE) is a kinesin-like motor protein that accumulates in the G2 phase of the cell cycle. Unlike other centrosome-associated proteins, it is not present during interphase and first appears at the centromere region of chromosomes during prometaphase. This protein is required for stable spindle microtubule capture at kinetochores which is a necessary step in chromosome alignment during prometaphase. This protein also couples chromosome position to microtubule depolymerizing activity. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding distinct protein isoforms.
