Ferroptosis / Oxytosis

Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent form of regulated cell death (RCD) characterized by the accumulation of lipid hydroperoxides to lethal levels, ultimately leading to membrane rupture and cell demise. Unlike apoptosis, necroptosis, or pyroptosis, ferroptosis exhibits distinct morphological features, including reduced mitochondrial volume, increased mitochondrial membrane density, and a lack of nuclear condensation. Its unique biochemical signature revolves around iron metabolism and lipid peroxidation.
