Background

Hendra virus (HeV), belonging to the Henipavirus genus in the Paramyxoviridae family, are zoonotic pathogens that cause severe viral disease in humans characterized by serious respiratory illness and encephalitis with high mortality. HeV-RBP protein consists of an N-terminal cytoplasmic tail, a single transmembrane helix, a stalk region, and a globular C-terminal receptor binding domain (RBD) with a 6-bladed propeller fold. The two henipavirus surface proteins, RBP and F, mediate viral entry by viral attachment to cells and fusion between the viral envelope and host cell membrane. HeV first attach to host cells by binding to the receptors ephrinB2 or
ephrinB3 using the viral receptor binding protein HeV-RBP.
