Background

The LILRB3 gene encodes a protein that is part of the leukocyte immunoglobulin-like receptor (LILR) family. These receptors are found on immune cells and play a role in regulating immune responses. Specifically, LILRB3 is involved in modulating immune cell activity, and has been investigated in relation to it's impact on certain immune responses. Further research shows it to modulate Fc Receptor mediated functions of neutrophils. It is located in the 19q13.4 chromosomal region, which is a cluster of genes associated with immune function. The protein it produces is a transmembrane receptor that can interact with major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I molecules. This interaction can have inhibitory effects on immune cell activation.
