Background

Osteomodulin (OMD) (also termed osteoadherin, OSAD) is a class II keratan sulfate SLRP expressed in mineralized tissues, including bones and teeth. Besides the hydroxyapatite binding capacity, a favorable function of OMD in governing the shape of collagen fibrils has been observed. OMD also takes a part in the biological processes including cell adhesion and tooth formation, and is involved in bone diseases such as osteoarthritis and heterotopic ossification.
