Background
Tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) represent a diverse and dynamic population of immune cells that have migrated from the bloodstream into the tumor microenvironment (TME) of solid tumors. Comprising primarily T cells (both CD4+ helper and CD8+ cytotoxic T cells), B cells, and Natural Killer (NK) cells, TILs signify an ongoing immune response against the developing or established malignancy. Their presence, composition, spatial distribution, and functional status within the tumor are increasingly recognized as powerful prognostic and predictive biomarkers, playing a pivotal role in the effectiveness of contemporary cancer immunotherapies.
